CALL TO PURPOSE

ABOUT

I grew up wondering how the same people could be both caring and cruel. Reconciling the difference was impossible. There were two churches in my small town and the reverends of both taught, “We who are many are the one body of Creation.” However, outside of church I experienced that the meanest kids always won. To them, they were the only “one-body” that mattered.

Unexpected relief came when I hid from a neighborhood bully in the old storm cellar in the back yard of our small house. As his shadow passed over the cracks between door slats, I felt something behind me. I turned to face the cellar floor but only silent darkness and the smell of damp earth filled the space. I walked down the final step, moved to the middle of the cellar, and sat down on the earthen floor.

Along the wall, old Mason jars filled with pale vegetables of gardens long past were knitted together with a delicate, gauzy web. The spiders that spun them had no reason to explore beyond the dust-filled shelves. Safe. I was safe here.

Heart pounding, all my childhood prayers emptied into the earthen floor. My mind stilled. No thought. No light. No sound. No expectation, about anything. A gentle warmth started to tingle in my legs. It moved up slowly, mixed in my chest, and grew.

The feeling of “belonging” felt so tangible, it seemed my lungs and the stone walls breathed the same breath. All was timeless. Safe with earthen floor and darkness—in that moment, I knew the “one body” was real. I was in it and it was in me.

The rest of my life has been spent learning how to maintain that connection while in day-to-day living and working within civilization.

In college, I joined demonstrations for peace, human rights and the first Earth Day and saw people on both sides change from respectful tolerance to hateful rage within moments. Again, it was connection to nature — now diving undersea or mountain climbing — that recalled the “one body.” However, my questions about good and evil and the purpose of human beings continued to expand.

I journeyed throughout the U.S. and then went on a three-year trek around the world. I traveled through fifty-three counties, came back home, got married, had kids and traveled with new friends through seventeen more countries for a total of seventy – so far.

Over the years, the feeling of being a part of “one body,” both physical and etheric, intensified. Experiencing what it means to be a human being living within a conscious Earth shook me to my bones. I changed jobs because of it. For over twenty-seven years I helped businesses and organizations of all sizes reduce their impact on the environment.

Writing Call To Purpose began in earnest the day after I retired. It took writing it as a novel, rather than as a history book, to genuinely convey the richness, intensity, conflict and tremendous courage of those who walked Earth in ancient days.

The writing flowed spontaneously because it came from reliving experiences. When the characters struggled, I struggled, and tears flowed. I rarely knew what one would do next until I typed the next sentence. Writing six or more hours a day was energizing.

However, it’s our own experiences that make things real for us. As you read Call To Purpose, you’ll have your own experience of the epic.

~ May your experience strengthen your connection to the inspiration that empowers a warrior’s heart – one of ever more connection, caring and creation.

May you expand All with who you are and All you choose to become.

Overview of Call To Purpose

Most people believe they have a non-physical, ethereal consciousness complementing that of the physical body.

I experienced that the same is true for Earth.

It’s just that its body is much larger.
